Recognition for cosy “corona terrace” of Forêt a faim
Pascal Smet has handed out the 4th Brussels Terrace Award This monthly recognition goes to temporary parking place terraces that, according to the jury, offer added value to the public space.
The restaurant “Forêt a faim” in Forest has been awarded the 4th Brussels Terrace Award. The jury stated that the terrace, designed by the architectural firm Landscale, is an asset to the public space because of the many plants included in the design.
“Another perfect example of a parking place terrace that is a real asset to the neighbourhood. People can enjoy each other’s company there in safe conditions. It brings extra life to our hospitality industry and embellishes our streetscape. A source of inspiration for other terraces,” said Pascal Smet, State Secretary for Urbanism.
“By making it possible to keep these terraces open until the end of 2022, we continue supporting the hospitality industry in this particularly difficult period,” said Barbara Trachte, State Secretary for Economic Transition.
As a reminder: Since April 2021, bars and restaurants can install a terrace on a parking place without a building permit, if these terraces respect a few guidelines.
In October last year, the Brussels government approved the proposal by Pascal Smet and Barbara Trachte to extend the planning permit exemption for temporary “corona terraces” until 15 January 2022. However, terrace owners who meet the quality standards can exceptionally ask the municipality for a derogation, with which their terraces can stay in place until the end of this year.
