Sports festival “Stadskriebels” at Tour & Taxis on Sunday 7 May
Get to know many Brussels sports clubs and organisations.
The annual sports festival Stadskriebels will settle on the Tour & Taxis site on 7 May. Its formula for success remains the same: you will be able to discover all kinds of fun sports and activities. Entertainment, performance, dance and music will complete the picture. And all for free. Do not forget to register in advance! Stadskriebels encourages children, young people, adults and active seniors to explore more than 50 sporting stands. The programme features well-known, but also lesser-known sports such as jympa, wheelchair basketball, sumo or laser clay pigeon shooting. No worries for those who prefer to stick with the classics. They can enjoy (nutmeg) football, aikido, skateboarding and the 3x3 basketball tournament. If you want to take it a bit easier, yoga, pilates, qigong and meditation are perfect options. An overview of all activities can be found at www.stadskriebels.be.
“Stadskriebels will create a buzz in our Brussels Canal Zone on Sunday. It is the ideal moment to discover all the activities of our sports clubs and organisations,” said Pascal Smet, college member for Culture, Youth and Sport of the VGC (Flemish Community Commission). “I hope to reach and involve as many active Brusselers as possible this Sunday. With this invitation to explore sports, we want to get as many Brusselers as possible sustainably involved in sports."
Besides sports and exercise, you can also enjoy many demonstrations, a snack or a drink and the atmosphere of a fanfare and musical performances. There will also be entertainment for the little ones. In recent years, the Tour & Taxis site has undergone a real metamorphosis. Gare Maritime has been renovated and the former large stone field has been converted into 3500 m2 of water features, surrounded by greenery. You can discover the site and its surroundings during Stadskriebels via a guided walk, a bicycle ride or a walking tour. Between Gare Maritime and the Quai aux Poissons you will find the brand new playground, including a slide, climbing equipment and ropes course.

This year, sustainability is an important part of Stadskriebels. No more plastic bottles, and hello to green toilets, free guarded bicycle parking and recycled banners. The beach volleyball court created for the event will stay for a whole summer.
There will also be the Sportswitch stand, which is a second-hand and giveaway shop of sportswear where you can come and drop off sportswear as well as shop at their stand. Do you have an old bike that you do not need any more? Bring it along and donate it to the “Fietsbieb” lending service.
Stadskriebels wil take place on 7 May from 11am to 6pm at Tour & Taxis. The three entrances to the site are 86 Avenue du Port, Rue Picard (Gare Maritime) and Boulvard du Jubilé/Pont du Jubilé. There are activities at Place de la Musique, in Gare Maritime, near the water features and in the park.
Stadskriebels is a FREE festival, but you need to register to participate. This can be done in advance at www.stadskriebels.be to avoid queues, or locally at one of the 3 registration stands. Most activities are also accessible to persons with disabilities. If you would like specific information or additional guidance, please contact the VGC sports service.
All the information can be found on www.stadskriebels.be, Facebook or at sportdienst@vgc.be and 02 563 05 14.
